Lime Essential Oil comes from Citrus aurantifolia, also recognized as Mexican or West Indian lime, and sour lime. The oil is obtained from the skin's unripe peel through cold expression or from the peel and/or the entire ripe fruit through steam distillation. Lime oil, characterized by a sharp, citrus fragrance, instantly uplifts one's mood upon smelling it and has a pale yellow to light olive color.

When utilized in an oil burner, Lime oil rejuvenates a weary mind and assists in alleviating anxiety, apathy, and depression. It's beneficial in lowering fevers linked with colds, sore throats, and flu. It enhances immunity and relieves coughs, bronchitis, sinusitis, and asthma. It's also considered beneficial for arthritis, rheumatism, poor circulation, obesity, and cellulite. This oil is beneficial for the skin, reduces oiliness, acne, assists with herpes, insect bites, and cuts. However, oil obtained by cold expression can cause photosensitivity and skin irritation.

Limes originated from Asia and are now cultivated in most warm countries like Italy, West Indies, and Americas. The lime ripens from green to yellow and typically measures about two inches in diameter. The lime was brought to Europe by the Moors and from there to the Americas. It's believed to have less Vitamin C content than lemons. During long ship voyages, people often carried limes to prevent scurvy caused by Vitamin C deficiency.
