Essential Oil of Ginger is derived from the plant known as Zingiberaceae officinale, also referred to as Common or Jamaica Ginger. The term 'ginger' originates from Gingi, a place in Tamil Nadu, India, and the local term for ginger, inji-ver. The oil is produced through steam distillation from the unpeeled or dried, ground root of the plant. It is a warming oil and is particularly beneficial for digestion and combating nausea and vomiting.
The oil of ginger possesses numerous therapeutic attributes. It is employed in the healing of fractures, alleviation of rheumatism, arthritis, and carbuncle pain. It assists in curing hangovers, travel sickness, colds, flu, coughs, sinusitis, sore throat, skin sores, diarrhoea, colic, cramps, chills, and fever. When utilized in a vaporiser, this oil combats loneliness and depression, and its invigorating properties make it an effective aphrodisiac. A drop of oil on a handkerchief and inhaled helps manage nausea, motion sickness, and colds.
Ginger is native to India, China, and Java, but it's also found in Africa and the West Indies. Sanskrit and Chinese documents mention ginger as a form of medicine. It is also featured in ancient Greek, Roman, and Arabian literature. Dried ginger is used to treat stomach pains, diarrhoea, throat issues, and nausea. The Chinese also use it to stimulate the heart and reduce mucus and phlegm.
