Mandarin Essential Oil is derived from Citrus Reticulata, using cold compression of the peel. Mandarin Petitgrain oil, in small amounts, is also produced through steam distillation of leaves and twigs. This oil is golden yellow-orange and emits the fragrance of a fresh orange. A variety of citrus fruits, including Satsuma, Clementine, Dancy, Honey, Pixie, and tangerines, are categorized as Mandarin oranges.
This oil is mild and is thereby used in treatments for children and expectant women. Its tonic and stimulating effects on the stomach and liver aid in digestion. It's beneficial for treating acne, oily skin, and blemishes, and is believed to alleviate issues like fluid retention and obesity. When diluted in a carrier oil and massaged gently on a child's stomach, it soothes stomach aches. It also calms hyperactive children when added to bath water. When used in an oil burner, it alleviates depression and anxiety.
Mandarin oranges earn their name from their historical gifting to China's mandarins. In France, Mandarins are considered a safe treatment for indigestion in children and the elderly, as they fortify the digestive system and liver. Originating from Southern China and the Far East, the Mandarin orange was introduced to Europe in 1805 and to America in 1845.
