Obtained from the flower and upper parts of the plant, Roman chamomile essential oil is light blue when fresh. It boasts exceptional calming qualities and is known to soothe irritation, impatience, and assist with PMS, menopause, and other menstrual issues. Roman chamomile, a fragrant evergreen with a fresh apple aroma, is primarily cultivated in France, Belgium, and Eastern Europe.
It is effective for treating skin conditions such as acne, eczema, rashes, wounds, dermatitis, dry/itchy skin, and allergies. It is also known to alleviate abdominal pain, gall bladder issues, throat infections, allergies, hay fever, and asthma. Diluted solutions of this oil can soothe colic, irritability, diarrhoea, and teething in children. It also helps in relieving headaches, nervous complaints, and migraines when used in a vaporiser. While safe for children and babies, always consult an expert before using.
Chamomile's medicinal use can be traced back to ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. The Egyptians dedicated it to their sun god and used chamomile oil for embalming. The renowned Greek physician Hippocrates reportedly used chamomile as a herbal remedy. In mythology, chamomile is one of the nine sacred herbs given by Wodan, the god of the underworld, to humans to enhance their lives.
